At Jabot, Summer told Kyle she'd be meeting with her mom an hour earlier than expected due to a change in her schedule. After Sally watched Summer leave, she peered through the glass beside the door and walked right in, lying that she hadn't known that Kyle was in the conference room. Kyle said he was waiting for a call. Sally bragged that she was setting things up for Lauren's new assistant, as Sally had gotten a promotion. Kyle said he'd heard and offered his congratulations. Theo suddenly appeared and insisted that Kyle express more enthusiasm for Sally. Kyle, surprised, asked Theo what he was doing there.
Theo said he'd returned to the United State on a buying trip, as there was a demand for American accessories in Paris. Kyle gave Theo credit for taking an interest in the business Jack had given him. Theo said he'd discovered he had a knack for the retail business. Theo didn't waste time informing Kyle that he'd run into Tara Locke, someone from Kyle's past. Kyle seemed taken aback. Sally said, "Looks like you remember her. How cool is it that Theo caught up with an old friend of yours?"
Theo remarked that Kyle and Tara had been much more than just friends because they also had a child together. Sally closed the door and asked Kyle if he'd walked away after Tara had become pregnant. Kyle accused Sally and Theo of cooking up the story, and he asked them what they expected to get out of it. Theo held his ground.
Kyle maintained that Tara would have never confided in Theo. Theo agreed, noting that Tara had tolerated him because she'd had strong feelings for Kyle. Sally swore she'd had nothing to do with Theo's startling revelations. Theo explained that he'd happened to run into Tara in New York out of the blue. Theo noted that Tara hadn't even mentioned Kyle. Theo explained that after Tara had introduced her son, Harrison, Theo had recalled that it had been three years since Kyle and Tara had seen each other. Theo counted on his fingers and said, "Three years plus nine months equals...well, he has your dimples."
Theo wondered aloud what Summer might think. Sally interjected, "It is blowing me away, the thought of a little Kyle running around New York. I really don't know what to say. Congratulations?" Kyle became irritated and replied, "This is such a crock. Even if Tara does have a kid, there's no way it's mine. She and I were careful." Sally replied, "Yeah. Famous last words." Kyle recalled that Tara was married. Theo announced that Tara was still married to Ashland, a man as ruthless as ever.
Kyle expressed certainty that Tara's husband, not Kyle, was the child's father. Theo accused Kyle of having been a smug jackass by denying that he existed and refusing to acknowledge he was part of Kyle's family. Meanwhile, Theo warned, news of Tara's child was like a grenade that could explode at any time. Theo smugly reminded Kyle that he wasn't untouchable. Kyle rose from his chair and asked, "Are you done?" Theo said he was and added that he had a flight back to Paris to catch. Before Theo left, he said, "So, I will leave your future happiness in Sally's very capable hands."
After Theo walked out, Kyle told Sally he hoped she wasn't gullible enough to believe what Theo had said. Kyle insisted that all Theo cared about was stirring up trouble. Sally agreed. Sally acknowledged that Theo was very good at causing trouble. Sally assured Kyle she had no intentions of blowing up his life. Sally added that she only wanted to ensure that she and Kyle could coexist peacefully.
Phyllis told Nick that Victoria had stopped by the Grand Phoenix to apologize. Nick wanted to learn the details. Phyllis recalled Victoria having admitted she'd purposely bought the loan. Phyllis explained that Victoria had acknowledged having used her position of power as leverage, so she could threaten to fire Phyllis. Nick was relieved and said Victoria's apology had been long overdue.
Nick suggested that Phyllis show him her gratitude for his role by agreeing to attend a family function with him. Phyllis quickly noted that she already had plans. Summer entered, and Phyllis said, "Here's my date right now." Nick said he'd stay if Summer needed advice. Summer immediately picked up on Nick's attempt to weasel out of a meeting with Victor. Phyllis replied, "Your daughter's psychic." Nick invited Summer to join him, but Phyllis nixed the offer on Summer's behalf. Summer said she'd been looking forward to a visit with her mother all day. Nick, teasing, told Summer and Phyllis they were both heartless after they giddily wished for him to enjoy his time with the Newmans.
After Nick left, Phyllis told Summer she couldn't deal with the drama of being with Nick's family. Summer expressed relief that she and Kyle had less drama in their life after having agreed not to put pressure on themselves. Phyllis said she was happy for Summer. Phyllis offered to fetch cocktails, so Summer could discuss "the girl named Cindy from L.A." Summer replied, "It's actually Sally, but yes, okay."
As Summer and Phyllis sipped their cocktails, Phyllis said, "So, tell me about this Sarah Spectra situation." Summer again corrected her mother, noting that the name was Sally. Summer explained that she'd taken her mother's advice, having informed Sally that she was aware of the unsavory details of Sally's past. Sally, Summer added, had somewhat apologized and backed off, though they remained at a stalemate. Summer acknowledged that the situation could change because Sally was cunning and manipulative and would likely become even more so.
Phyllis, taken aback by Summer's apprehension, said, "You have the position of power right now." Phyllis cautioned Summer to watch her back, though she did acknowledge that her daughter seemed happier than she had been in a long time. Phyllis waved her hand dismissively and cried, "So don't let this wannabe Sabrina Spectra ruin things for you." Summer nodded and quietly replied, "Sally." Summer told her mom she was glad she could be open and honest and say whatever was on her mind. Phyllis assured Summer that it was a judgment-free zone.
Summer acknowledged that Phyllis had been right about Sally and had told her exactly what she'd needed to hear. Summer added that Nick was amazing, though he didn't always "get it." Phyllis agreed that she and Summer were on the same wavelength, which meant that she "got it" for them both. Kyle arrived, nearly breathless, apologized for interrupting, and began mumbling without finishing his statement. Summer said Kyle seemed upset. Kyle suggested they talk later.
Summer became increasingly concerned. Kyle mentioned that he had something to discuss about Sally but didn't think it was the right place to do so. Summer replied, "Mom is up to speed on everything." Phyllis piped up and loudly said, "Yeah, what happens at the Grand Phoenix stays at the Grand Phoenix." Kyle said he'd rather discuss it with Summer privately. Phyllis reluctantly stepped away.
Victor stopped by Newman Enterprises to see Victoria. Nikki was alone in the office and explained that Victoria had actually left early, noting that it was a rare occurrence. Victor replied, "I guess she's checking on the children before we all meet at Society. That's a good sign, isn't it?" Nikki wasn't as enthusiastic about the prospect and said tensions remained between Nick and Victoria. Nikki told Victor it was at least a positive first step to have the family agree to meet. Victor lamented that Adam and Chelsea wouldn't be included.
Victor claimed that he seemed to be the only one concerned about Chelsea's health crisis. Nikki explained that Chelsea's crisis couldn't erase all that Adam had done. Nikki reminded Victor that his other children were facing challenges, as well. Victor acknowledged how worried he and Nick had been about Faith's drinking. Nikki mentioned Abby and Chance's struggles to bear a child.
Victor praised Victoria for the stellar job she'd done running the company while balancing motherhood. Nikki agreed, though she told Victor that their daughter was lonely. Victor feared that Billy might be preying on Victoria's emotions. Nikki insisted that Billy wasn't pursuing Victoria, though she admitted Victoria had lately been working through what had gone wrong. Nikki suggested Victor concentrate on enjoying the coming together of his family. Victor cried, "Sweetheart, it ain't the whole family without Adam."
At Crimson Lights, Billy and Johnny waited for Lily to arrive. Johnny said Lily was nice. Billy said he also liked Lily and attempted to segue into announcing the status of his romantic involvement until Victoria suddenly appeared, greeted Billy and Johnny, and said, "What a nice surprise." Johnny replied, "We're waiting for Lily." Billy explained that he and Lily had something important to tell Johnny. Victoria recalled that both she and Billy had agreed to wait a while before he did that.
After Johnny went to order hot chocolate, Billy and Victoria had a chat. Victoria recalled that both she and Billy had been on the same page about allowing people to bounce in and out of their kids' lives. Billy reminded Victoria that they'd also agreed he had to be a hundred percent sure before taking the next step. Billy added that he was sure about Lily and thought he'd explain it to Johnny first while Katie was at a playdate. Billy noted that Lily was a part of his life, so he wanted Johnny to know. Victoria whispered, "Does it have to be now?"
Lily entered the coffeehouse and told Billy she hadn't expected Victoria to join them. Victoria explained that she was on her way to a family event. After Victoria left, Lily asked Billy if they should tell Johnny about their relationship, fearing that Victoria's appearance might make it confusing. Billy replied, "Yeah. You're probably right." Johnny joined Lily while Billy went to order his drink.
Lily invited Johnny to play "I Spy." Johnny guessed right away that something that started with a "c" was the word "Crimson" on Lily's cup. Johnny smiled and said, "Are you Daddy's new girlfriend?" Billy sat down and said, "Well, yes. Lily and I are boyfriend and girlfriend, but that doesn't mean that Daddy's not going to spend time with just you or you and your sister because I love spending time with you."
Billy added that it was a bonus for him and Johnny to hang out with Lily because she was fun. Johnny asked Billy if he and his mom wouldn't be getting back together again. Lily stepped away to get a refill. Billy assured Johnny that he and Johnny's mother would always be Johnny's parents. Billy assured Johnny that his mother loved him and Katie. Billy explained that adults sometimes made difficult decisions they hoped were best for everyone. Lily returned and offered to show Johnny a video of a puppy playing a piano. Johnny nodded, though he seemed somewhat reserved about engaging with Lily.
At Society, Nikki and Victor had drinks while they waited for their family to join them. Nikki suggested they enjoy the evening and refrain from pushing any kind of agenda. Nick and Victoria arrived. Victor noted that they were 20 minutes late. Victoria apologized, explaining that she'd been dealing with her kids. Nick said he'd tried to convince Phyllis to accompany him. Victor replied, "Well, I'm very glad to hear that she declined." Victoria whispered, "Seriously, Nick?"
Nick said he believed things had gotten better between Victoria and Phyllis. Victoria expressed doubt that things were better. Nick told Victoria that it meant a lot that she'd apologized for having acquired Phyllis' hotel. Victor turned to Nikki and said, "You see? Didn't I tell you that they would work things out?" Nick asked his dad if he was taking the credit. Nikki said Victor was pointing out that Nick and Victoria had managed to settle their differences. Victor added, "I'm still your father. I shall continue to be, and I'm going to act in the interest of my family, my whole family."
Victor received a text message notification and turned his attention to his phone. Nick said, "If this is going to turn into a 'poor Adam' thing, I'm out." Victoria agreed. After Victor handled his phone call. Abby entered and said, "I am so sorry I'm late, but I have some life-altering news I can't wait to share with you all. We're going to have a baby." Abby acknowledged that she and Chance had faced many obstacles. Nick said he was sorry he hadn't fully realized what Abby had gone through. Abby praised Victor for setting appointments for her and Chance to meet with specialists that had quickly set them on the right path.
Abby announced that she and Chance had chosen Mariah to become a surrogate. Nick and Victoria both said it was a great decision. Victoria asked Abby if she and Chance would be the biological parents. Abby explained that due to complications from Chance's recent injuries from the shooting, he was unable to father a child at that time. Nikki expressed sorrow for the many ups and downs Abby and Chance had faced. Abby acknowledged that it had been a roller coaster and assured her family that it would be okay.
Abby explained that she and Chance would be selecting a sperm donor. Abby added that yet another bump in the road had occurred after Chance had been called away on a mission as a federal agent one final time. Victor appeared worried when Abby announced that Chance's absence wouldn't postpone their plans to have a new baby to join the Abbott, Chancellor, and Newman families. Victor smiled and said, "Hmm."
Victoria assured Abby she was doing the right thing. Nick admitted it had blown his mind to learn that Mariah would become Abby's surrogate. Victor praised Abby's strength and resiliency, and he proposed a toast to his daughter. After Victoria, Nick, and Abby left, Victor told Nikki that their children were his greatest joy. Nikki thanked Victor for not confronting Victoria about Billy. Victor admitted it hadn't been easy because he loathed "Billy Boy."
Billy had taken Johnny home before Victoria returned. Billy told Victoria that Billy had taken his bath and was in Hannah's care. Billy asked about the Newman gathering. Victoria said she was more interested in Billy's talk with Johnny. Billy said he and Lily had decided not to say anything. Victoria replied, "That was a wise choice."
Billy explained to Victoria that Johnny, on his own, had asked Billy and Lily if they were boyfriend and girlfriend. Billy admitted that he'd been truthful, stressing to Johnny that his parents would always be present for him and were happy for each other having chosen to move forward. Billy said he'd sensed some strain from Johnny, though he was sure their son would be fine. Billy added, "All in all, I think it went well."
After Phyllis allowed Kyle and Summer to talk privately, Kyle took a deep breath. Summer asked Kyle if he was okay because he seemed rattled. Summer asked, "What did Sally do now?" Kyle replied, "It's not about what she's done. It's about what she found out about me." Kyle loosened his collar. Summer seemed apprehensive as Kyle explained that he had something to tell her about his past, when he'd lived in New York. Kyle acknowledged that he should have told Summer a long time before and feared it could mess things up for his family.
Summer cried that Kyle was scaring her. Kyle explained that he'd rather Summer hear it from him and not Sally, or even worse, read about it in a tabloid if Sally decided to play dirty. Kyle admitted that what he had to say could seriously mess things up for him and cause him to lose everything, including her. Before Kyle could continue, he saw Nick walk in. Kyle requested he and Summer talk elsewhere, so her parents couldn't overhear.
As Summer and Kyle were leaving, Phyllis asked them if everything was okay. Kyle said things were fine. Summer told her parents they'd talk soon. Nick replied, "Okay." After Summer and Kyle left, Nick asked Phyllis what was going on. Phyllis replied, "I wish I knew."
After Kyle left, Sally phoned Theo and left a message. Sally thanked Theo for his "gift," noting that the news had freaked Kyle out. Sally said Kyle would do anything to make sure his precious Summer didn't find out about the child. Sally added, "So, kudos to you for knocking him sideways. You really did get the better of him, after all. And now, I am protected from anything that Summer and Kyle might try to use against me."
