As Ian and Lucy met for dinner at the Recovery Room, Lucy wondered why Ian kept looking up to check who was walking in the door.

Meanwhile, Jamal, Jack, and Marissa met at the Recovery Room to get ready for their road trip. When Ricky wandered in, Marissa sensed that Ricky was missing Karen, so Marissa tried to interest him in going along with them on their road trip. Ricky originally turned down the idea, pointing out to Marissa that she looked too much like Casey for Ricky to feel comfortable with that kind of situation. But Jamal, Jack, and Marissa finally prevailed on Ricky, and he decided to join them.

In the park, Rafe puzzled over the letter he was supposed to believe was from Alison. Livvie soon joined Rafe. When Livvie arrived, Rafe told his wife point-blank that he did not believe Alison had written the letter. Rafe demanded that Livvie tell him what Livvie had done to Alison.

Back at the Recovery Room, when Kate arrived, believing she would be having dinner with Ian, she was offended when she realized that Ian had set her up for a heart-to-heart with Lucy. However, Ian convinced Lucy and Kate to at least listen to each other for a while then Ian bowed out.

Later, Ian visited Eve's headstone in the cemetery and read poetry to his deceased wife.

Meanwhile, in the park, Livvie denied that she knew anything about Alison's travel plans, but Rafe continued to inform Livvie that he did not believe Livvie -- and Rafe pointed out that ever since Rafe had lost his memory, he had accepted Livvie's word about the past he could not remember, but Rafe had no intention of continuing to listen to Livvie.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the woods, Alison realized her foot was caught in some kind of trap, and she called out for Rafe.

As Lucy and Kate talked, Lucy sympathized when she learned that Kate's boyfriend had been in a coma for two years. Lucy finally told Kate that Kevin had had some kind of mental breakdown and was in an institution. When Lucy realized that Kate was worried about the expense of caring for Brennan while he was in a coma, Lucy insisted that Kate let Lucy help Kate with the expenses involved in moving Brennan from New York to General Hospital. Kate finally agreed and urged Lucy to let Kate help with any kind of legal problems Kevin might face following Kevin's time at large, believing he was Ryan.

When Marissa asked Jamal why Jamal wanted Ricky to go along with them on their road trip, Jamal replied that it was to give Jack someone to hang with whenever Marissa and Jamal were busy. But, when Jack asked Jamal why Jamal wanted Ricky to go along with them, Jamal told Jack that Jamal did not want to make the same mistakes with Marissa that he'd made with Alison -- and for Jamal, trusting Marissa enough to believe that Marissa would not succumb to an instant attraction to Ricky was part of having a strong relationship with Marissa.

As Livvie continued to stonewall Rafe in the park, Rafe suddenly grabbed his wife and informed her that she was going to help him search for the missing Alison -- and Livvie was not going home until Alison had been found.

Meanwhile, in the woods, Alison continued to try to free herself from the trap. Alison said, "Rafe, please! Please! I just -- I need you. Please come back to me! You always came back to me, really, when I needed you. I need you right now -- my own personal angel. Please. I just need you to help me. Please. Just come back to me. Come save me just one last time. Please!"

Ricky, Jack, Jamal, and Marissa finished setting up their tents for a night of camping. Marissa left the guys and went into the woods in order to heed the "call of nature." While searching for a place to relieve herself, Marissa sensed someone or something watching her. Marissa ran screaming back to Jamal that something was out there. Knowing Marissa was frightened, Jamal told the others they were going to a hotel. While they were discussing that, there were more sounds from the woods. They went to investigate but saw nothing. When they returned to the camping area, Marissa saw that all their food was missing.

Alison tried desperately to free herself from the trap. As she did, she was startled when she heard a noise.

As Rafe worried about Alison's whereabouts, Livvie tried to tell him that Alison had done the right thing and had left of her own accord. Rafe refused to believe that Alison would give up on their relationship. He demanded that Livvie tell him the truth. When she continued playing innocent, Rafe pointed out that Livvie had become so cold and determined that she was starting to believe her own lies.

Rafe had had enough. He decided it was time to leave. He was through pretending. He didn't love Livvie. Outside the door, Rafe had a vision of Alison calling out for help. He ran to the woods, where he found an empty trap and a scrap of Alison's clothing.

Lucy found Ian at Eve's grave. She told him about her talk with Kate and how they were going to move Brennan to General Hospital. Lucy decided that she should visit Kevin in Switzerland.

Chris asked Karen to use her influence on Frank and get him to start being Lancelot again. Karen said that Frank was through with that. He wasn't going to be Lancelot anymore. Chris was delighted. He wanted to be the one the Avatar chose for its next host. If Frank didn't want the gift anymore, Chris would be more than happy to take it. Besides, Chris was sure he could appreciate the power much better than Frank could.

Karen reached for the phone at the same time as Chris, and he accidentally knocked her down. As Karen began to bleed from a cut, the Avatar appeared, saying, "Shame." Afraid, Chris assured Frank that Karen was fine, and Karen agreed in order to avoid trouble. Chris used the opportunity to plead his case. He asked the Avatar if he could be the host instead of Frank.

At their roadside camp, Jack, Jamal, Marissa, and Ricky tried to figure out what kind of animal had stolen their food -- until Marissa pointed out that a four-legged animal would have trashed the camp while looking for food -- but their camp was "tidy" -- except for the missing food. They concluded their visitors had been of the two-legged variety.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Ian made sure Kate had everything she needed for Brennan's care.

At Chris's penthouse apartment, Chris tried to convince the Avatar that the spirit should transfer from Frank to Chris. But the Avatar reminded Chris that only a just man could be the Avatar's host. Karen tried to talk Chris out of the idea, but the Avatar told Karen to remain silent. As Chris tried to convince the Avatar that Chris really was a "just man," the Avatar informed Chris that the Avatar would not waste his gifts on someone like Chris. The Avatar moved menacingly toward Chris, whispering, "Shame."

Meanwhile, as Rafe ran through the woods, looking for Alison, he realized that he had been traveling in circles. Rafe logically presumed that Alison might have gone to the barn, since Alison had described the way she and Rafe had taken vows in the barn. So Rafe headed in the direction of the barn.

Back at Chris's apartment, Karen realized that Chris's scheme to trade places with Frank as the Avatar's host was making the Avatar angry. Karen tried to clue Chris in and finally convinced Chris to retract his statements, but the Avatar told Chris that Chris was no longer of any use to the Avatar.

Back at the hospital, Ian tried to assure Kate that Brennan would be fine, but Kate reminded Ian that Kate believed Ian had a tendency to be too "pushy." When Ian asked Kate to go with him to grab a quick bite, Kate turned Ian down and went to spend time with Brennan.

As Chris broke away from the angry Avatar, Karen suddenly pretended she was in pain from her fall and asked the Avatar for help. As Karen distracted the Avatar, Chris ran out the door. When the Avatar started after Chris, Karen called on Frank to let Chris go.

Back at the roadside camp, Jack, Jamal, Marissa, and Ricky had another look in the woods around the camp then they decided to pick up the camp and spend the night in a motel. Marissa suddenly decided there might be a story in it and balked at leaving right away -- until they heard a mournful howl in the distance. Jack suggested it sounded like a wolf. That was enough to convince Marissa, and they all hurried to pack up their camp.

Back at Chris's apartment, Karen reminded Frank of their love and their plans for a bright future while she tried to convince Frank that they did not need any revenge, but Frank did not appear in answer to Karen's pleas. The Avatar pushed past Karen, declaring, "Justice -- justice will be done." The Avatar rushed out the door, following Chris.

Rafe arrived at the barn and was disappointed that Alison was not there. As Rafe willed Alison to find her way to the barn, he noticed the carved heart that Livvie had sanded away. Rafe began to carve the heart again.

Back at their roadside camp, as Jack, Jamal, Marissa, and Ricky finished packing up the camp, Ricky headed off first in the car with the cooler and other picnic supplies, while Jamal and Marissa left on Jamal's bike.

Jack remained behind to take one last look around before he left -- and heard a strange noise in the bushes. Jack challenged whoever was skulking to emerge -- but no one showed. But, Jack spotted a pumpkin. Approaching the pumpkin cautiously, Jack realized that the pumpkin had been carved out and had soup in it. Jack wondered, "Now, why would some guy follow us out in the middle of nowhere, steal our food, and bring us soup in return?"

Karen arrived at the hospital in a panic and admitted to Ian that Frank was Lancelot -- and Lancelot was Frank. Karen told Ian that the Avatar was going to kill Chris. Ian was surprised at first, because Ian thought the Avatar regarded Chris as a friend. As Karen implored Ian to help her stop Frank, Ian observed that Frank might already be too far gone to ever separate from the Avatar.

Meanwhile, Chris was in the elevator, making arrangements to be on the next flight out of Port Charles -- regardless of destination. But the elevator suddenly stalled, and the Avatar suddenly appeared inside the elevator with Chris.

As Ian and Karen headed for the elevator to search for Frank, the door opened to reveal a badly beaten Chris.

Back in the barn, Rafe finished carving out the heart and concentrated on wishing Alison to be there -- just as Alison arrived at the barn door.

Lucy arrived at the Swiss clinic where Victor was hiding out with Kevin and assured Victor that she had not been followed. Victor reported that Kevin had not talked to anyone since he'd arrived at the clinic. When Lucy went in to see Kevin, she was shocked to see him wearing a straitjacket. Kevin did not speak to Lucy.

Back at the hospital, Karen and Ian rushed Chris to the Emergency Room, where they worked frantically to save him. As they worked, Karen glanced up and saw Frank standing at the door.

At the barn, Rafe was thrilled to see Alison arrive. When Rafe asked Alison how she had gotten out of the trap, Alison explained that she had seen someone approaching her then she had passed out. When she had regained consciousness, she had been free of the trap, and someone had left food for her. Then she'd started walking and had decided to go to the barn.

Alison noticed that Rafe had carved their heart back on the beam in the barn. When Alison asked why Rafe had carved their names again, Rafe told Alison, "Because I love you." Alison asked what he had said, and he repeated, "I love you, Alison."

In the ER, just as Karen was prepared to declare Chris dead, Chris suddenly rallied. When Chris was out of danger and appeared to be stabilized, Karen followed Frank and suspected that Frank had slipped into the stairwell. Karen followed Frank into the stairwell.

Back at the barn, Rafe told Alison that he loved her with all his heart -- but he still did not remember any of their past together. Rafe explained, "That's the thing -- I don't. I do not remember. You know what? It doesn't matter. Because I don't love you for our past and all that. I -- I love you for -- now. I've fallen in love with you, Alison!" He apologized for all he had put her through. As they began to kiss, the memories flooded back to Rafe.

Rafe declared, "I remember! Everything! All of it! It has all come back to me. I remember you. I remember me. I remember us. Us -- together. Before. Before -- I -- I remember everything!"

Back at the hospital, Karen found Frank in the stairwell. When Frank tried to explain that the Avatar had just reacted to Karen being hurt and had decreed that Chris had needed to be punished, Karen insisted that it had been an accident. She had fallen -- and Frank knew that it had been an accident.

Karen said, "It was not the Avatar, Frank. It was you. You reacted. You almost murdered someone tonight. And Chris still is not home free. What were you thinking when --" Frank interrupted her and told her to back up a minute. Karen insisted, "The Avatar is not a gift, Frank. It is a curse! You can not control it!" Frank asked what Karen wanted him to do. She said she wanted him to get rid of it, and she didn't care how.

In Switzerland, Lucy took out some pictures from home for Kevin to have with him and some CDs with his favorite music. As Lucy talked about the way they would soon be one big, happy family again, Kevin suddenly looked up and said, "I am not Doc!"

Back at the barn, Rafe and Alison rejoiced over Rafe's returned memory. Rafe tried to apologize for believing everything Livvie had told him, but Alison reassured him that it was not his fault and that nothing mattered except that one moment. Alison reassured Rafe that nothing that Livvie did could ever really get between them. Rafe asked, "Do you know what it feels like to be this close to you again? To feel my lips against yours?" Alison admitted, "I almost gave up. I did. Because I was scared -- you know? But I didn't. I couldn't."

Rafe said he had known something had happened to Alison because he knew she would never give up. Alison promised to never give up on him ever again and vowed she would never let him go.

Back at the hospital, Officer Doree made her way to the ER and asked about Chris. Chris heard her and said, "My chest -- feels crushed." Doree said, "And you look like hell, too!" Chris guessed it was Doree. Ian told her not to stay for long because Chris needed his rest. Doree thanked Ian then told Chris that if he weren't in bed, she would "personally kick your butt." Chris said someone had beaten her to it. Doree said she was glad he was not dead, and she reached out and held Chris's hand, just as he drifted off to sleep.

Down in the stairwell, Frank told Karen, "It is no good, Karen. You do not know what you are asking me." Karen said she knew exactly what she was asking, telling him he had asked her to save him. She lamented that she'd thought they both wanted the same thing. Frank admitted he'd thought so until Chris had tried to take it from him, and he hadn't been able to let Chris do that.

Karen was stunned at Frank's reason for beating up Chris, and upset that it hadn't been about her. Frank explained that was who he had become, vowing that he would not let "Chris or Ian or Rafe or anyone else take that away!" Karen asked if that included her, and wondered what he would choose if she asked him to choose between her and the Avatar. Frank said, "Ask me anything, Karen -- but please! Please, do not ask me to do that." Frank began to back away from Karen.

Karen begged Frank not to turn his back on everything, but Frank disappeared. Ian suddenly appeared in the stairwell and guessed that Frank had just been with Karen. Karen sadly stated, "Yeah. It's over. He will not give up the Avatar -- not even for me." Ian said, "He almost killed someone tonight. And it is only a matter of time before he crosses the line. I am not going to let that happen." Karen wondered what they should do. Ian told Karen they had to force Frank to give up the Avatar, whether he liked it or not. He said Karen might be the one to force him into it.

Meanwhile, in Switzerland, Lucy promised Kevin that she would wait for him forever. Kevin said, "Don't!" then he began to kick on the door until an orderly arrived to take him away.

Back in the barn, Rafe confessed to Alison that she was the only woman he had ever loved. Rafe said, "I feel so lucky, just to be standing with you here, right now. And to have nothing -- but love in your eyes -- coming towards me -- after everything that I did." Alison said no, but Rafe continued, "You know what? Loving you is like breathing. And, just as much as air or water, you give me life." Alison was touched by his words. He said, "It is the purest, most holy thing that God ever created -- that ever happened to me -- ever! And I love you. I love you so much!'

Alison told Rafe, "And, now, if you would like to -- you may kiss your bride." Rafe declared, "My wife. My Alison!" As Rafe kissed Alison, there was a gunshot, and Rafe crumpled to the floor with bullet in the back, as Alison cried out in horror. Livvie stood in the doorway with a gun in her hand.
