Steve Richard Harris had an unusual upbringing. He spent time living in an ashram in India as a teenager, and because his adventurous family moved around a lot, he attended fifteen different high schools growing up. He attended Fallsburg High School in South Fallsburg, New York, for a time, and enjoyed playing many sports, including soccer, baseball and basketball, but dropped out at the age of sixteen.
Harris' soap debut came on the now-defunct Another World where he played Zak Wilder, the mysterious sidekick of villain Jordan Stark. He debuted in the role in the summer of 1998, continuing until the spring of 1999, when Zak got on Jordan's bad side and was eliminated, leaving only a pile of ash behind. He can also be remembered as a gardener in Sex and the City, where he had an interesting encounter with Charlotte, and a uniform cop in the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit portion of a special cross-over with Law & Order called Entitled in 2000. In 2001, he also appeared in the independent film Ordinary Madness. He has also appeared in the New York production of Tony & Tina's Wedding, as well as numerous other stage productions at New York's Musical Theatre Works.
Before getting the job at OLTL, Steve had been working for his brother-in-law as a sales representative for an eye wear company. He had tested for the role of Al Holden in 2001, but the role ultimately went to Nathaniel Marston. Shortly after his role on OLTL ended, Steve filmed a Lea & Perrins commercial as Joe, a guy in the kitchen making burgers with his Lea & Perrins sauce that the women absolutely love.
Born December 3rd in Brooklyn, New York, Steve is happily married to a schoolteacher named Jennifer, and they have two daughters; Casey, born in 1999, and Sophia, born in 2002.
