Brady is the only child of Isabella Toscano and the oldest child of John Black. As soon as he was old enough, he was sent away to private school and rarely came home. He finally returned home in 2000 on a college break and decided not to return to school. It soon became obvious that he resented his father hooking up with Marlena mere months after his mother's death, and also resented Marlena's attitude towards him. More than once Marlena has shown that even though she raised him from an infant, he was never as important to her as her biological daughter, Belle. Frequent arguments and fights have ensued, culminating when Marlena became convinced that Brady was trying to kill Belle. After Belle was injured in a train track accident, Marlena became obsessed with having Brady sent to prison for a crime she was certain he committed. She fired Roman Brady up about the incident, and was indirectly responsible for the shooting fiasco that paralyzed Brady from the waist down. Brady is getting the use of his legs back, but he is determined to get Marlena out of his father and half-sister's lives. He believes she's a bad influence (pointing to her failures with Eric and Sami), and has a lot of anger over the way she always chose her biological child over her husband's son.
Marlena and Brady were finally able to straighten out their problems. Marlena apologized for the way she had treated him, and Brady apologized for the way he treated her. He even called her 'Mom' a few times, but it wasn't long before his real mother came back into his life. Around the time his good friend Chloe was getting sick, Isabella's ghost began appearing to him, and it was her guidance that kept Brady by Chloe's side through everything, including her frequent battles with Philip, who was insanely jealous of Chloe and Brady's friendship. Chloe finally broke up with Philip for good, and turned to Brady. The two soon realized they were deeply in love, but their future could be threatened by Chloe's leukemia. Although Chloe is currently in remission, Brady has always felt that he doesn't have much time with her. He was right...she got an offer to sing in Europe, and Brady decided that the only way to get her to go was to use tough love. When she left, it broke his heart.
With Chloe gone, Brady moved back home with his grandfather. He soon involved himself in his grandfather's marriage to Nicole. Almost before he knew it, Brady found himself dreaming about Nicole instead of Chloe. But soon Brady saw through Nicole's sweetness act, and when Victor brought Chloe back to town for Christmas 2003, Brady knew that he had never let Chloe out of his heart. Chloe left Salem once again to further her career, and Brady turned his back on Nicole. Brady soon suffered a series of devastating losses though. First his grandfather was found dead in the bathtub, then Brady got news that Chloe had died in a horrible accident. Although initially he was devastated and couldn't forget about the loss of the woman he loved, he finally was able to open his heart up to Nicole. At the same time, he was thrilled to learn that Victor may be alive, and was part of the group that went to Melaswen to save the survivors. They were able to help some of the island captives, but unfortunately, Victor wasn't one of the survivors who made it back to Salem.
Brady began moving on toward a future with Nicole, but after an accident when Chloe visited him in the hospital, he began to realize he just couldn't put his love for her behind him, even though he had committed himself to Nicole. He became suspicious of Nicole when he started to think that Chloe might be alive, and when he realized she was, he blamed Nicole for Chloe's 'death', even though Chloe insisted that it was all her idea. Brady turned his back on Nicole completely and began to work on convincing Chloe that they could indeed have a life together, despite her scars. He even began trying to help her find a doctor could remove her scars. The surgery was ultimately successful, and when Chloe raised her veil on her wedding day, her face was back to what it had been before. The two left Salem on their honeymoon immediately after the wedding, and were unable to make it back in time for John's funeral in 2007 due to weather conditions.
Chloe returned to Salem in November of 2007 without Brady. After much speculation as to why the couple was not together, viewers learned that after meeting some of Chloe's friends (who happened to be drug dealers) Brady became addicted to drugs. He and Chloe fought constantly. One night, Brady was taken from their apartment in Austria. Chloe fled to Salem for safety. Months later, Chloe learned that Victor had actually ordered Brady's kidnapping in order to force Brady into rehab. When Chloe learned where Brady was, she rushed to be by his side. But, Brady told Chloe that he wanted a divorce. Their divorce was final on May 27th, 2008. Chloe remained in Salem and Brady remained in rehab.
In November of 2008, Brady completed rehab and returned to Salem to reconcile with his friends and family. He made amends with Chloe and even congratulated her on her engagement to Lucas. He reconnected with Marlena and vowed to help her with John. And, Brady accepted a job from Victor as vice CEO of Titan where he worked with Philip.
Brady's working relationship with his Philip was a strained one. Philip often complained that Victor favored Brady. But, Brady pointed out that Victor was being harder on Philip because he was his son and the actual heir to the Kiriakis Empire while Brady was further down the line to inherit everything. That seemed to appease Philip for the time being, but things were quickly strained again by vivacious Melanie Layton, who began working at Titan as a consultant.
Upon his return, Brady also started a complicated relationship with Nicole. Originally just visiting her to wish her well, he found himself becoming her confidant. Brady was still a recovering drug addict and Nicole, who was recently pregnant, had to give up drinking. He offered to help her if she needed it and gave her his phone number.
One night Nicole began experiencing terrible cramps. When she couldn't get hold of E.J., Nicole called Brady. He rushed her to the Fairway Urgent Care Clinic in Brookville. Nicole had a miscarriage. But, she couldn't risk telling E.J. because she feared that E.J. would leave her. Brady agreed to keep her secret, but urged her to tell E.J. the truth.
Nicole did not take Brady's advice. She began to wear a pregnancy pad to fake the remainder of her pregnancy. Brady opposed her actions, but Nicole proclaimed it was just temporary until she could muster up the nerve to tell E.J. the truth. Brady was skeptical. Eventually, Nicole found a young, pregnant woman named Mia whose baby she wanted to illegally adopt and pass off as her own. Nicole asked Brady to pretend to be her fiancé so that Mia would go through with the adoption as she wouldn't unless she met the baby's prospective father. Brady adamantly refused to lie for her again. Nicole accused him of not supporting her thus creating a rift in their newly rekindled friendship. However, Brady had more to worry about than Nicole.
Brady was determined to help his father regain his memory. After learning Charlotte proclaimed John's first hypnotherapy session was a bust and wrote him off as a lost cause, everyone became suspicion. Brady sprang into action and broke into Charlotte's office to review the recorded session. He was both shocked and appalled that Charlotte had lied to everyone as the recording proved John was in fact remembering his past. Brady e-mailed the file to Marlena then went to her penthouse to review it with her.
At first, Marlena was worried that Brady might get into legal trouble for his misdeeds, but, when he demanded she looked at the file. She did and Marlena was also shocked by its contents. Brady immediately wanted confront Charlotte, but Marlena told him she would handle things. Knowing she could be in danger, Brady went to John and showed him the recording as well. John was also stunned by it and agreed that Marlena could be in trouble. He raced to the penthouse to help Marlena, but upon walking through the door Charlotte attacked him from behind with a hypodermic needle filled with a dose of muscle relaxant large enough to kill someone. Brady arrived a few minutes later to help, but there was little he could do. At the hospital it was revealed that John had been paralyzed from the neck down and needed to be transferred to a clinic in Lugano, Switzerland that specializes in cases like his.
Brady's only reprieve was that the injection had helped John get his memory back. He was overjoyed when his beloved father finally remembered him. Although just reunited with his father, he had to say goodbye. John had to be flown to Lugano that night and Marlena was going with him. But, before they left, John and Marlena were remarried in the hospital with Brady there to experience the bittersweet moment and say goodbye to his father and Marlena.
Brady stayed in Salem to continue his life. He realized that he had more than friendly feelings for Nicole. After helping her through her miscarriage, he tried to stop her from marrying E.J. and be with Brady instead. But, Nicole decided to marry E.J. Brady accepted her decision, but went to her wedding to see if she would actually go through with it. Furious that he had shown up, E.J. ordered some of the DiMera thugs to follow Brady from the church and beat him up.
The beating was only the start of the war between the DiMeras and the Kiriakises. Soon, the feud was full blown, with Stefano and E.J. blaming Philip for Tony's accidental death and retaliated by ordering hits on Philip and kidnapping Stephanie. Brady knew that there was trouble and rather than play along, he went to Bo to get the police involved. This move angered Victor, and Victor threw Brady out of the family. But once Philip and Stephanie were safe, Victor tried to apologize.
Brady soon met and began a relationship with Arianna Hernandez. The relationship helped Brady forget about Nicole and the DiMeras. Brady proposed to Arianna and the two were set to get married.
When the truth about Nicole's baby switch came out, Brady testified on Nicole's behalf at her trial. This move hurt Arianna, and she and Brady hit multiple rough patches over Nicole. Despite how much he claimed to love Arianna, Brady could never cut Nicole out of his life. Nicole knew this and used it to her advantage to get Brady back.
Nicole framed Arianna for the recent Salem muggings (which Hope really committed). Arianna tried to convince Brady that she was innocent. But, she noticed Brady's hesitation to believe her. Arianna broke up with Brady for good in the police station. While she was cleared of charges, Brady started a downward spiral.
Nicole was there to comfort Brady and the two began dating. Brady also began drinking again - a move that worried his friends and family. Brady found out that Vivian had hatched a plot to burry Maggie alive. He was furious with Vivian for going after Maggie, but when Brady learned that Vivian had moved his mother's remains to a pet cemetery as part of the plot against Maggie, Brady snapped. He put Vivian in the sarcophagus and tortured her via camera and earpiece for weeks.
When Vivian's assistant, Gus, finally rescued her, she sent out for revenge against the Kiriakis family. She bought the majority shares of Titan and took over the company. Meanwhile, Nicole struck a deal with E.J. where she would give up Brady in exchange for visitation privileges with Sydney.
Brady needed an outlet for his anger. He retaliated against Vivian by setting up a fake overseas meeting. Brady paid the pilot of the Titan jet to throw Vivian out over the Pacific Ocean -- onto an island that the Kiriakis family owned. Vivian was out of the picture until Victor heeded Maggie's request and had Brady rescue Vivian.
Her rescue was contingent on her signing the company back over to the Kiriakis family. However, instead of Victor, Brady made sure Vivian signed the company back over to Brady. Then, he settled in as the head of Titan.
When Brady heard that Troy was the hit-and-run driver who killed Arianna, Brady was mad. But, when Brady learned that Troy was working for E.J., Brady blamed E.J. for her death. In retribution, he hired a goon to assault E.J. Once E.J. was hit, Brady stepped in and tried to finish the job. He beat E.J. almost to death, but Melanie stopped him. She told Brady to leave and started covering up the crime. Eventually, Dario, Daniel, Jennifer, Carly, Bo, Hope, Maggie, Victor, Nicole, and Taylor were all part of the cover-up. Brady maintained the position that if E.J. ever remembered the events on the night of the beating, Brady would not let anyone else take the fall for the crime.
But, the feud continued and eventually Maggie Horton got caught at the wrong place at the wrong time and was shot. Worried that the violence was getting out of control, Brady joined with his family in declaring a truce with the DiMeras. He then turned his attention towards Titan.
Titan acquired a cosmetic firm, Mad World Cosmetics. Brady was immediately smitten with Mad World's CEO, Madison James. The two began dating, much to the approval of Brady's family. John, Marlena, and Victor all agreed that Madison was good for Brady. She even encouraged Brady to take the job with John to rebuild Basic Black. With his dad by his side, Brady focused his energy on making Basic Black a leader in the fashion industry.
Madison's relationship with Brady continued to grow. She supported him when he left Titan and went to work for Basic Black. Brady fell so hard and fast for Madison that he proposed to her in February 2012. However, on the night of his proposal, he found another man in her hotel room. The man introduced himself as, Ian, Madison's husband.
Brady was shocked to learn that Madison was married and broke up with her on the spot. Madison tried to explain the details of her marriage to Ian. She met him when she was very young. He invested in her company, and his investment made Mad World a success. She married Ian when she was young, but soon learned that he had numerous affairs and she'd long since fallen out of love with him. However, Ian refused to grant Madison a divorce.
Brady resisted Madison at first. But, once he forgave her for lying to him, he agreed to help her fight Ian. However, it wouldn't be necessary. Once Ian reunited with former love, Kate, he agreed to divorce Madison. Madison ran to Brady and the two got engaged immediately.
But Ian wasn't ready to let Madison go that easily. Ian began drugging Brady, causing Brady to be high during important business meetings. Brady was acting strange -- sweating, manic moods, and hyper behavior. Madison worried that Brady was using drugs again. Despite insisting that he hadn't touched drugs, Brady tested positive. Madison was furious. Brady insisted that Ian must have been slipping him drugs. Madison did not believe Brady at first. But, after going to rehab with him, Madison believed Brady.
When they returned, they announced that they were going to marry right away. They set their wedding date for midnight, the night of Lexie's memorial autism fundraiser. However, there was a great explosion that night int he tunnels underneath Salem. Many buildings were damaged, including the banquet hall where Lexie's benefit was being held. Madison was fatally injured in the explosion. Ian was with Madison and held her in his arms while she died. He confessed his love for her and tried to apologize for hurting her. With her last breath, Madison lifted her head and said, "I love you, Brady."
Brady never made it to the benefit because he was trapped in the tunnels underneath Salem. (He went there to help search for his missing friend, Melanie.) When Brady found out about Madison's death, he was devastated. He went to a support group for those who'd lost spouses. Jennifer, who had lost Jack in the same explosion, was a great friend to Brady during the time.
A few months later, Kristen DiMera returned to town. Sure that she was back to cause trouble for his father and Marlena, Brady kept a close eye on Kristen. They served together on the church board. Brady began to develop an attraction to Kristen. And she used that attraction to her advantage. She wanted revenge on John and Marlena, and she thought that sleeping with Brady was the perfect move. So, she hired a man to attack her in front of Brady, knowing that Brady would step in and save her. Brady was also attacked during this altercation, sending him to the hospital.
Kristen was by his side and took care of him while he healed, all the while planning to trap him into a relationship, then dump him, leaving him broken hearted, just as his father had done to her. Once they started dating, Kristen almost immediately began scheming for their secret relationship to come out. When John and Marlena found out, they were horrified and disowned Brady. He would not apologize to them or any of his family for his relationship.
Brady fell in love with Kristen and proposed to her. E.J. and Stefano both questioned Kristen's intentions for Brady, mainly, her ability to go through with hurting Brady. Kristen insisted that she would see her new plan (to have Brady walk in on her in bed with John) through. But when Brady presented Kristen with a wedding present -- adoption papers for their future child -- Kristen began to doubt whether or not she could go through with the whole thing.
On the eve of their wedding, John showed up at Kristen's hotel room. He had decided that the only way to break up Kristen and Brady was for Brady to see them in bed together. But, Kristen couldn't go through with it. She turned John down and ran to see Brady.
But Marlena had gotten to Brady first. She had a photo of Kristen paying off the man who attacked Brady. When Kristen arrived at the mansion, she tried to lie and then finally explained the truth to Brady. Brady left her and called off their wedding.
Kristen was crushed. Just as Marlena was prepared to celebrate her win, Kristen told Marlena that earlier that night, John had come to her hotel room and tried to seduce her. Kristen might have lost Brady, but she took some joy in believing that Marlena also lost John. But, Kristen still blamed Marlena for ruining her relationship with Brady, and was determined to make Marlena pay.
When Marlena's son, Eric Brady, went out of town on business, Kristen followed him. She snuck into his room, shot him with a memory-erasing drug-filled dart, lured him into bed, and raped him. She video taped their sexual encounter and had it edited to look like Eric was a willing participant. She put the video on a flash drive and planned to show the video at the consecration of St. Luke's Academy, the school that Eric worked so hard to get built.
But on the day of the consecration, Brady informed Kristen that he learned that she was the one who stopped things from going further with John. Brady wanted to give their relationship another chance. Thrilled, Kristen agreed and kept the video hidden.
Kristen met with the doctor who supplied her with the drugs she used to poison Eric multiple times to confirm that Eric wouldn't remember anything. Once satisfied, she proceeded on with her life, even working along side Eric to select scholarship winners for the new school. Brady told a very disappointed Marlena and Victor that he and Kristen were back together. The two formed an uneasy alliance to break up Brady and Kristen for good.
Kristen became worried though when she thought that she might be pregnant. She bought a pregnancy test and ran into Jennifer on her way home from the drug store. Jennifer saw the test and asked Kristen if she and Brady were pregnant. Kristen confessed that she had slept with another man when she and Brady were apart, but didn't tell Jennifer who the man was. Jennifer was supportive of Kristen and after she took the test, Kristen called Jennifer to say that it was a false alarm. Kristen asked Jennifer to keep quiet about sleeping with another man. Jennifer agreed.
However, Marlena was in the hallway of the DiMera mansion picking up Sydney when Kristen was making the phone call. Marlena heard Kristen confess to sleeping with another man. Marlena teamed up with Victor and Nicole to find out Kristen's secret.
An uneasy alliance with Nicole soon formed as well, and Nicole told Marlena about a flash drive that Kristen was adamant to be kept secret. Marlena knew that she had to find the flash drive.
Meanwhile, Kristen and Brady were growing closer. Brady revealed how much he loved Kristen during Pre-Cana counseling. She was thrilled and wanted to move up the wedding. She knew Marlena, Victor, and Nicole opposed the wedding, but she was determined to marry Brady.
Kristen frequently checked with Dr. Chyka to be sure that Eric would not remember what she did to him. Despite all of his guarantees, Eric did remember. But, he thought it was Nicole who raped him. Kristen thought she was in the clear.
But then she learned that Marlena had her flash drive with the video on it. Kristen hired a man to attack and rob Marlena. He failed at his task but lied to Kristen that he threw the flash drive into the river.
However, the flash drive was on the ground in the park where Marlena was attacked. Parker happened to pick it up when he was playing and showed it to Daniel. Daniel took it, thinking that it belonged to someone, and intended to open it to see if he could find out who's drive it was. But, before he could do so, he was called away from his desk. Marlena came into Daniel's office to leave him a note. When she reached for a pad from his desk, she found the flash drive.
She recognized it as Kristen's. She tried to open it, but it was encrypted. So, she took it to Victor and his team was finally able to open it the morning of Brady and Kristen's wedding. He watched it and was shocked to see Eric on the video. Victor tried to show the video to Brady, but Brady wouldn't hear Victor out. Victor knew that Brady had planned on showing a video for Kristen during their wedding, so he convinced Marlena to swap out the DVDs.
On the day of Brady and Kristen's wedding, with Eric officiating, Marlena unknowingly played the tape of Kristen raping Eric. Everyone was horrified and Kristen ran out of the church. Brady followed her and demanded an explanation. She said that Eric had seduced her, and since the video was edited to make it look like Eric was a consenting party, Brady believed Kristen. But, Kristen knew that as soon as he talked to Eric, Brady wouldn't believe her. So, she fled Salem.
Brady did confront Eric and didn't believe him. The two fought. But, after Hope and Roman had enough faith in Eric's account to open an investigation against Kristen, Brady knew that Eric was right. Brady told Hope that he'd cooperate in any way to help put Kristen in jail.
Brady received a mysterious call from a man who claimed to know where Kristen was. Brady was hesitant, but went to meet the man and paid him for his information. Brady was directed to a crack house in Salem. He did not find Kristen there, but he did take some drugs from the house before he left. He ended up using soon after. But, he insisted to his family that he was trying to stop.
To keep up the ruse of someone who had overdosed and was trying to change, Brady started attending AA meetings. He met Theresa Donovan there, and the two immediately butted heads. But, eventually, their relationship turned flirtatious. Theresa could tell that Brady wasn't serious about AA, so the two would meet to drink together. Theresa was drawn to Brady and jealous of his rich lifestyle.
Theresa liked that her relationship with Brady bothered Maggie, Jennifer, and Daniel. Soon, she grew fond of Brady too, enough to turn down Liam Frazer's advances when he seemed to take an interest in her.
Brady used Theresa as a distraction as well. John Black had returned to Salem and wanted to mend fences with Brady. But, Brady could still only see Kristen when he looked at John and was not open to any reconciliation efforts.
One day, Daniel arrived at the hospital to perform a surgery. But, a few minutes into surgery, Daniel had to leave. He collapsed and was hospitalized. Toxicology reports showed that he was high on opiates. Daniel was put on temporary suspension, per hospital policy, while the investigation took place. Daniel and Jennifer immediately suspected Theresa. Theresa knew that Liam was behind it.
Theresa tried to do damage control, begging Brady to believe her that she had nothing to do with what happened to Daniel. Brady said that he wanted to believe her, but if he found out otherwise, she'd be sorry. Brady agreed to help Jennifer find out what happened to Daniel. To do so, he told Theresa that he had to stop drinking and seeing her. Theresa was crushed.
Liam eventually followed Jennifer out to Smith Island and held her captive. While he ended up dying in the struggle, Liam did confess to Jennifer that he'd been behind the pictures, message boards, and drugging Daniel. Since Anne was the only person who knew that Theresa gave Liam the key to Daniel's apartment, Theresa thought that she was in the clear. She frequently reminded Brady, Daniel, and Jennifer that they were wrong to accuse her of drugging Daniel. She and Brady resumed their relationship.
All of Brady's family told him that a relationship with Theresa was a bad idea. But, he kept spending his time with her, engaging in heavy partying that included cocaine. Eventually, he told Theresa that he wanted more from their relationship. Theresa was thrilled because this meant her plan to get his money would be easier.
The two of them took a private jet to Vegas. Brady drank heavily and Theresa had to carry him out of the casino. As a passed-out Brady and Theresa flew home on the Titan jet, Theresa looked down at the new weddings rings on their hands.
Thrilled that she had finally landed Brady for good, Theresa and Brady flew back to Salem. John met them at the Kiriakis mansion and was irate to see Theresa there with a ring on her finger. He knew that Brady would get the marriage annulled once he sobered up and yelled at Theresa for being a disappointment to her family. But Theresa told John that for $1 million, she'd walk away from Brady. However, John had been recording their whole conversation. Theresa knew that John's tape would mean that Brady would get the annulment. So, she grabbed a fire poker from the fire place and struck John over the head.
She knocked John out cold and he fell to the floor. In a panic, she dragged John's body next to Brady's passed-out body, wiped her prints off the fire poker, and put the poker in Brady's hands. Then, she screamed for Henderson, who saw the scene and called 911. Theresa told the police that John was attacking Brady and Brady swung back in self defense. When Brady awoke in a hospital room, she told Brady the same story. He was horrified that he had hurt his father.
John was more than hurt. He was in a coma. The doctors had no idea when or if he would come out of it. Brady started going back to NA meetings and told Theresa that they needed to annul their marriage. He said that he needed to get his life back together.
He tried to fly in doctors to look at John's case, but they all said that it was hopeless. But, around the same time, Kristen was captured and brought back to town. She told Marlena that in exchange for Eric refusing to testify against her, she would produce a doctor with a new formula that would save John. But, she didn't want Brady to know about the offer. Marlena agreed and, reluctantly, so did Eric.
Brady was horrified to see Kristen in town. He told her to stay away from John. And, even though he told her that he wanted space, Brady returned to Theresa for comfort to forget about Kristen. Theresa thought there was hope that they'd reunite. Brady wasn't ready for anything serious with Theresa, but she kept moving forward.
The only thing that could stop her is if John woke up. And thanks to Kristen's drug, he did. However, when he woke up and learned that Kristen was in town, he went along with Theresa's story so that she would still be an obstacle in Kristen's path to Brady. But he warned Theresa that if she hurt Brady, he'd tell him everything.
But, Kristen beat John to it. Kristen noticed Theresa acting strange each time someone mentioned John coming out of the coma. So, she planted a recording device in Anne's purse and captures a conversation between Anne and Theresa where Theresa confessed to hitting John. Then, Kristen played the recording for Brady.
Brady didn't believe her at first and went to talk to John. Outside of John's room, Brady heard John and Theresa talking about the night of John's attack. He was furious and confronted them both. John told the truth but Theresa continued to deny it. She swore that Kristen doctored the recording. Brady rushed to talk to Daniel about the recording, and walked in on Daniel and Kristen in bed together.
Daniel and Kristen didn't even notice Brady standing in the doorway. But, they did stop before things progressed further. They got dressed and both agreed that what almost happened was a mistake. Kristen wished Daniel well and told him that she was leaving Salem.
Kristen arrived back at her hotel room to pack. Brady showed up to talk to her. He told her that she was right about Theresa. Kristen began to see hope, but then Brady finished his thought -- there was hope until he saw her in bed with his best friend. Kristen tried to explain that they didn't actually sleep together, but Brady didn't care. He told them that they were done forever. He never wanted to see her again.
Before she could leave town, Kristen wanted to confront Theresa. So, Kristen followed Theresa into the woods. While there, Kristen overheard Theresa say that she was pregnant with Brady's baby. Kristen snapped. She called her henchmen and set up one last scheme. She had Theresa kidnapped and strapped to a hospital bed. Then, Kristen had some DiMera doctors transplant the embryo from inside Theresa to Kristen and Kristen left Salem pregnant with Brady's child.
But Theresa was adamant that Brady listen to her. So, she told him that she was pregnant and agreed to a pregnancy test to prove it. However, the test showed that Theresa wasn't pregnant. Almost everyone thought Theresa had made it up. Brady was furious with her, but he conceded that she probably did really believe that she was pregnant. Still, they were through.
A few weeks later, Brady was shocked to see Melanie back in town. Melanie explained that she was back to stay -- a move she claimed to have had in the works for a while. But Brady, while happy to see Melanie, was skeptical.
It turns out that Melanie fled Europe because she'd been caught counting cards in a casino and won thousands of dollars. She thought that fleeing to the US with the money would keep her safe. But, two security agents from Europe followed Mel home. The tried to grab her and force her to come back with them. But, Brady was there and stopped them. Nicole and Daniel were there as well. Nicole told the security agents that she'd love to do a story on their casino. Knowing that their boss wouldn't want the bad press, they agreed to stop pursuing Melanie in exchange for all of the money returned. Melanie agreed.
After that night, Brady and Melanie spent more time together. She was glad to have her best friend back in her life. But pretty quickly, their friendhsip turned romantic. They let their family know that they were going to date and started dating. Everyone supported them.
The only one not happy for them was Theresa, who still had feelings for Brady. She and Melanie butted heads almost immediately. Melanie and Theresa did not get along, but when Melanie overheard Theresa's new boyfriend Clint talking on the phone with a "Dr. Mandrake" about Theresa. So, Melanie started investigating.
It turned out that Kristen DiMera hired Clint to keep track of Theresa and make sure that she never remembered what happened the night Kristen stole Theresa's embryo. So, Clint would report back to Dr. Mandrake, who performed the procedure on Theresa, after each date with her. Mandrake ordered Clint to get blood samples from Theresa and Brady to see if either was a bone marrow match for the baby. Clint drugged them both and took vials of blood. Melanie caught Clint leaving Theresa's apartment with the blood. Her suspicion grew even more.
Melanie enlisted Nicole's help to investigate Dr. Mandrake. They confirmed that Mandrake was a fertility specialist. It didn't take Melanie long to figure out that Theresa could have been pregnant and Kristen stole the baby. Melanie told Brady. Brady headed to Italy to confront Kristen. Melanie snuck into his plane.
Once he arrived, he encountered Kristen. He wasn't sure if she would confess to the crime or not. So, they danced around the subject a bit until he finally asked her. She told him that she had a child, but that Daniel was the father. Brady insisted on a DNA test. Kristen pulled a gun on him and had him tied up in the dungeon. In a last ditch attempt to spare his life, he tried to convince her that he still loved her and they could raise the child together. Kristen saw through it.
But, Brady soon had company when Melanie showed up at Kristen's castle and was quickly thrown in the dungeon as well. They were tied together and left under the guard of Clint. But, Brady and Melanie had managed to loosen their restraints. Brady and Clint struggled over the gun. It went off. And Clint fell to the ground dead.
Brady rushed upstairs just in time to see Marlena and Kristen struggling over a gun. Kristen went out the window. Brady rushed to find his son. The Italian police soon arrived. They knew Kristen fell, but they could not find her body. So, they could not charge anyone with a crime. The group returned home to Salem. Brady and Theresa renamed the baby Tate.
