The Bold and the Beautiful's Reign Edwards (Nicole Avant) had a hard time "reining" in her excitement over landing a nomination in the 2016 Daytime Emmy Award Outstanding Younger Actress category, but can you blame her? After all, she just started on the CBS soap this past year and already managed to snag the honor. Shortly after she heard the exciting news, Soap Central spoke with the elated actress to get the scoop on how she reacted when she found out she'd been nominated and her thoughts on her on-screen sister's absence from the nominations.
soapcentral.com: Hi Reign, and congratulations!
Reign Edwards: Thank you so much!
soapcentral.com: You must be freaking out. What an exciting day for you!
Edwards: Oh, man, you don't know what I've been through this afternoon. I'm still getting myself together! I'm here with my family, and we're finally mellowing out just a little. But, oh man, it was me, my aunt, my mom and my sisters.
soapcentral.com: Did you scream, jump up and down? How did you react?
Edwards: Exactly that! We were all jumping up and down, and then we had a moment of just pure gratefulness and thanking God. It was pretty great. Our voices are a little hoarse. Mine is finally coming back now, but it's still a little hoarse.
soapcentral.com: What scenes did you end up submitting?
Edwards: I submitted the scenes I had with Anna [Maria Horsford, Vivienne Avant] and Obba [Babatundé, Julius Avant] when they first came to town. I felt they were really powerful scenes. They were just really honest about the reality of the situation, so I really just loved them.
soapcentral.com: Was it hard for you to narrow down what to submit? I feel like it must be pretty difficult your first time out.
Edwards: I had a tough time. It was between two episodes, and it was those scenes and the reveal scenes, and my gut told me to go with the ones with Anna and Obba. I talked about it with my mom and my team, and we felt those were the best ones to choose.
soapcentral.com: Have you checked out your competition in the category?
Edwards: I saw everybody [on the list], and I think everybody is phenomenal. I feel really blessed and honored to be in the same category as these amazing girls.
soapcentral.com: How did you feel about not seeing Karla Mosley [Maya Avant] on the pre-nom list?
Edwards: I think Karla has done such an amazing job with her story and just made it, her storyline, what it is. It's so powerful, and she has definitely taken the ship of leading that. She's done a beautiful, beautiful job with her work this year, and I think that speaks for itself.
soapcentral.com: I know you just found out that you've been nominated, but have you thought about what you might wear?
Edwards: [Laughs] Oh, just anything. I'm just really excited. I love fashion and getting my makeup done, so I'm gonna have a ball!
soapcentral.com: It also came out that the Emmys won't be televised this year, unfortunately. What do you think about that? It's your first one!
Edwards: I'm just happy that we get to have the event at all and that we get to have the time and celebrate everyone in the community. That part is really great, whether it's televised or not. It's just great we have the time to recognize and honor so many people.
