If you're one of the fans that has been happy to see Daniel Goddard (Cane Ashby) front and center again on The Young and the Restless, you might want to brace yourself. It appears that the actor's front-and-center status has been a prelude to his exit from the CBS soap.
In a social media post that shocked fans, Daniel Goddard has announced that his time as The Young and the Restless' Cane Ashby has ended.
The actor, who joined the CBS Daytime drama as Colin and Genevieve Atkinson's son Cane in 2007, expressed sadness over the upsetting turn of events and says that last year's death of beloved cast member Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters) along with the choice of Cane's on-screen love Christel Khalil (Lily Winters) to leave the soap opera played a part in the show's decision to cut ties with Cane.
"It's with a heavy [heart] that I share the news that I will no longer be part of the cast of the Young & the Restless. I'm as shocked & gutted as u r," Goddard wrote. "I'm forever grateful for my 13yrs in the Y&R family but sadly it seems that without Neil & Lily... there just is no Cane."

Not long after joining Y&R, Goddard shot to fame as part of the soap's couple Cane and Lily -- one of Genoa City's most stable couples throughout the years. The pair hit shaky ground in the last two years, which culminated in a divorce after Lily was sent to prison in order for portrayer Khalil to pursue projects outside of daytime.
Goddard's latest storyline involved him being the object of Traci's (Beth Maitland) affection, but the writers decided to put a halt to the May-December romance when it reportedly didn't fully win over fans.
Before joining Y&R, Goddard made a name for himself on the Australian soap opera Home and Away. His other credits include BeastMaster, Monk, and Wild Card.
This is not the first time that Goddard's time on Y&R was slated to end. In 2011, the actor was reportedly cut from the show, but an outpouring of support from fans -- which included fans hiring a plane to fly over the CBS studio with a banner proclaiming support for Goddard -- reversed the decision to cut the actor.
