Extra recently gave fans a double dose of General Hospital excitement when it chose special correspondent Tamara Braun (ex-Kim Nero) to interview Briana Nicole Henry (Jordan Ashford) for a segment about the latter's real-life wedding.
As Soap Central previously reported, Henry married musician Kris Bowers in a backyard ceremony in June -- smack-dab in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.
"We called our parents, and we're like... 'So, we're getting married on June 6... We're still figuring it out. No, I don't have a dress. No, he doesn't know what he's gonna wear," Henry tells Braun, adding that to protect the safety of their guests, the couple provided COVID-19 testing. "Our goal was: Get married, make sure no one walks away with COVID-19."
Unfortunately, a global pandemic wasn't the only thing that made Henry and Bowers' wedding one of extraordinary circumstances. Civil unrest was also spreading throughout the country, which prompted the actress to hold off on posting her wedding photos on social media.
"We were really hesitant about posting photos right away," she explains. "We wanted to just give a little bit of space to George Floyd and all the things that were directly happening at the time."
On that subject, Braun asks Henry if GH viewers might see any storylines that mirror what's going on in the country. Henry says she's not sure of the ABC soap opera's future plans but would like to see the powers that be tackle racial issues when it returns to the air with new episodes.
"Listen, I can't control what GH does," she says. "But I hope with every inch of my body that we take advantage of this opportunity... to tell the story that I think our country is experiencing right now."
Speaking of new episodes, Henry is just as curious as fans about when GH will be going back into production.
"We were planning on going back in the middle of July," she says. "Just as production was revving up for a bunch of these shows... cases have spiked."
