There's nothing General Hospital fans wouldn't give to see Kimberly McCullough's Robin Scorpio back in Port Charles, where she and her on-screen mom Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) go down in history as one of television's most memorable mother and daughter pairs. The chances of that happening remain slim, as McCullough left her ABC soap role in 2014 and has since announced her retirement from acting. Luckily for fans, however, something else recently brought McCullough and Hughes together again: directing.
Both women have embarked on careers as directors, and they both attended this year's Directors Guild of America Awards. Much to the delight of their GH fans, the Emmy winners celebrated their reunion by posing for photos together and posting them on social media.
McCullough shared a photo of herself with her TV mom along with a heart as the caption, while Hughes posted a reunion shot of them together as well as a solo photo of McCullough on the red carpet. The latter has a caption that reads, "This woman right here @kimmeabreak She walked into my world over 30 yrs ago. She was 3 & 1/2 foot tall and took us by storm. The life she is creating is so inspiring, her work ethic, intelligence and heart makes you want to follow her anywhere. That's why she is such a good director, leader and general all around badass. Kim, I will follow you to the ends of the earth."
Both Hughes and McCullough made their GH debuts in 1985 and shared many adventures together as Port Charles mother and daughter Anna and Robin. They also briefly shared the screen together on GH's sister soap, All My Children, in 2001.
McCullough left GH in 2014 and has since been focusing on a career as a director. She has helmed several television series in the past decade, including K.C. Undercover, Pretty Little Liars, Fuller House, The Conners, One Day at a Time, The Bold Type, and the upcoming Roswell, New Mexico.
Hughes began her directing career in 2013 with the short film The Bet and took time off from GH in 2015 to direct The Byrd and the Bees. Her most recent directing gig is an episode of Good Trouble called "Palentine's Day," which is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, February 12. For more on that, read Soap Central's article here.
