Daytime star Steve Burton is best known for his two-decade run as General Hospital's Jason Morgan, but the actor actually made his soap opera debut in the short-lived role of Days of our Lives' Harris Michaels in 1988. News recently broke that Burton will be reprising the character for the NBC drama's second season of its Peacock spinoff series, Beyond Salem, which the actor says he's thrilled about.
"Joining Beyond Salem -- the limited digital series for the Peacock -- has been a lot of fun and very nostalgic," he reports to Soap Hub. "I started my daytime career on Days of our Lives in 1988 while on a hiatus from the sitcom I was doing called Out of This World when I was a senior in high school. It's been really cool to reprise the character I started with, Harris Michaels."
Burton also shares that he has had a pleasant filming experience with the DAYS cast and crew, who have welcomed him with open arms.
"Daytime is a small world, so I knew a lot of the cast and crew already and met some new peeps. Everyone has been so welcoming, and I am always grateful for new opportunities," he shares. "Looking forward to the finished product. Stay tuned."
Season two of Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem is set to drop on Peacock on Monday, July 11, and run through Friday, July 15. The second installment of the streaming series, which is currently in production, will see several Salemites -- including Hope and Bo Brady (Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell) -- go on an epic, action-packed global adventure tied into the soap's past.
Burton's most recent soap role as GH's Jason ended abruptly in November 2021 when he was let go from the ABC soap for not complying with the show's vaccine policy. GH wrote the actor off the show in a storyline that had Jason declared dead after he was trapped under heavy rubble in a collapsed underground cavern.
In addition to GH's Jason and DAYS' Harris, Burton also played The Young and the Restless' Dylan McAvoy, the son of Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) and Paul Williams (Doug Davidson), from 2013 to 2017.
