Congratulations are in order for Days of our Lives' Freddie Smith (Sonny Kiriakis) and his girlfriend Alyssa Tabit: the couple is now officially engaged.
Smith planned a surprise proposal for his love during a recent photoshoot. After the special moment, he posted an Instagram picture of them kissing along with an emoji of a diamond ring and the caption: "Love you @alyssatabit"
Smith had been planning the surprise proposal for quite some time, revealing to Soap Opera Digest that he would pop the question by the end of the summer.
"We'll be planning our wedding for summer or fall of 2019," he said, adding that though the actual proposal was a surprise, Tabit knew it would be coming because the couple went ring shopping together.
Smith and Tabit met at a Dirty Disney-themed party in February of 2010 but didn't start dating until the summer of 2011.
"After chasing her month after month, we finally [got together]," Smith shared on Instagram. "She moved in three weeks later and we've been together ever since. She is my love, my life, my soul mate, my business partner, my light, my everything and more than anything she is what she has been since 2010 -- my very best friend."
As soap fans may recall, life for the newly engaged couple hasn't always been smooth. Smith was charged with drunk driving back in 2015 following a car accident that left Tabit seriously injured. The couple was able to get past the horrific incident, and their relationship now seems stronger than ever. In fact, in addition to dating, the pair hosts a podcast called The Freddie and Alyssa Show, which you can find on iTunes here.
Smith joined DAYS in 2011 and played Sonny -- the first openly gay contract character on the NBC series -- until 2015. He returned to the show in 2016 and has been playing Justin and Adrienne's son ever since.
