The Bold and the Beautiful celebrated its 18th anniversary on Wednesday, March 23rd, 2005. The special occasion was marked with an announcement by CBS Television that the soap had been renewed by the network for another five years.
Created by legendary television producing and writing couple William and Lee Phillip Bell, the 30-minute sister soap of
The Young and the Restless debuted in 1987. In 2004, the series earned its very first Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series.
"Being #1 in Daytime is a tremendous source of pride at CBS, and The Bold and the Beautiful is certainly a major part of that success," said Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment. "We're honored to extend our partnership with the Bell family and look forward to many more years of compelling and groundbreaking storylines."
According to numbers furnished by CBS, The Bold and the Beautiful averages just a shade under 4 million viewers each weekday. Those figures place the show in second place out of the nine soaps currently on the air. The show also has a huge international following in Europe and Australia.
"The Bold and the Beautiful is synonymous with glamour, fashion, fun and the extraordinary lives of the wealthy and misbehaved," said Barbara Bloom, Senior Vice President of Daytime Programs, CBS. "'B&B's sexy, classic storytelling is what has kept viewers coming back for nearly eighteen years, and has proven to be a time-honored approach in keeping them hooked."
"CBS has been our home since B&B was launched almost 18 years ago," said Bradley Bell, Executive Producer and Head Writer. "I'm pleased to know that our partnership will continue for many years to come."
